4. Kelly continues to push Brown for No. 2 spot

Over the last two years, the Rams have done an amazing job with finding value picks in the draft, and even though he still has a long way to go when it comes to proving himself in the regular season, John Kelly is already showing a ton of potential. The former Tennessee star was selected by Los Angeles in the sixth round during’s April’s draft with the intention of competing for the No. 2 running back spot behind Todd Gurley, and so far, Kelly is making a strong case.

Entering the preseason, Malcolm Brown was considered the early favorite to land the backup job to Gurley after taking on the role last year, but it could be tough for him to beat out Kelly when seeing how the two have compared so far over the last two weeks. One week after Brown was limited to just one yard on three carries against the Baltimore Ravens, the running back saw more action against the Raiders with 22 rushing yards on seven carries.

As for Kelly, the rookie led Los Angeles in rushing for the second week in a row after rushing for 56 yards on 18 carries, and even found the end zone for the first time in the NFL. Since he’s a rookie, McVay seems to be willing to give Kelly more carries in the backfield to see what he’s made of, and the move looks like it’s paying off so far.
