1. Mannion shows improvement from last week

Just how much pressure was Mannion facing in the second preseason game? Well, after completing just 3 of 13 passes for 16 yards with an interception when facing the Ravens, Mannion was arguably battling for his backup job in Week 2 of preseason against the Raiders, especially after seeing how well Brandon Allen performed against Baltimore.

Even if it was only a preseason game, Los Angeles can’t afford to enter the 2018 season with uncertainty at the backup quarterback position since the team needs someone they can rely on if Jared Goff were to ever suffer some sort of injury. And while there was plenty of confidence about Mannion in previous seasons, the Rams were all of a sudden unsure about whether he was the right answer to backup Goff.

Completing just 10 of 16 passes for 84 yards may not seem like that big of a deal on paper, but also keep in mind that Mannion helped the offense put together 13 points in the first half, and didn’t record a single turnover. With more performances like this, Mannion will most likely secure the backup role over Allen while making the Rams feel better about their situation at quarterback beyond Goff.
