Los Angeles Rams: Aaron Donald’s contract situation continues to be predictable

LOS ANGELES, CA - OCTOBER 08: Aaron Donald

Heading into Week 3 of preseason, Aaron Donald is still waiting for a new contract from the Los Angeles Rams.

For the second week in a row, Sean McVay decided to rest the starters of the Los Angeles Rams during their recent preseason battle against the Oakland Raiders, which didn’t seem to matter since they went on to win the game 19-15.

Then again, even if McVay made the decision to play the starters, there still would have been one star player absent in Aaron Donald.

As Los Angeles continues to prepare for their third game of preseason against the Houston Texans, it’s crazy to think how the team still hasn’t reached an agreement with Donald. When seeing how last summer’s holdout finally came to an end after the conclusion of the preseason, the Rams knew they couldn’t afford to go through another situation like this with Donald, especially since he’s entering the final year of his rookie deal.

Sure, the argument can be made that Los Angeles has the advantage since they can always use the franchise tag down the road if needed, but do they really think this is going to make Donald happy? When looking at how quickly he’s established a reputation for being one of the league’s top defensive players, it’s easy to understand why Donald has been pushing so hard for a new contract.

Week after week, the story seems to change about the progress between the two parties when it comes to the Rams and Donald coming close to a deal.

Take a look at all of the excitement from last week in some reports claimed a deal could finally be in place before the Rams suited up for their game against the Raiders, which clearly didn’t happen for Donald.

It sounds terrible to say, but nobody should have expected a deal to take place before last weekend since reports have claimed Donald and Los Angeles have been “close” on numerous occasions over the last few months, which obviously has been far from the case.

By now, Rams fans feel all of these reports about Donald’s contract are repetitive since anytime something comes out about an agreement seeming to be within reach, it never ends up happening.

So once again, any fan of Los Angeles that was hoping to see a deal finally completed for Donald before or during the weekend was left with the same feeling from the last couple of months each time it seems close, which is disappointment.
