STs: Greg Zuerlein, Johnny Hekker, Jake McQuaide (3)

Young GZ, Greg Zuerlein looks healthy again kicking bombs in training camp. Zuerlein was on his way to a phenomenal season last year before suffering an injury later in 2017. He’d miss the Rams playoff game against the Atlanta Falcons, a loss for LA 26-13.

“Greg The Leg” who was 38-40 on his field goal attempts, was also an impressive 6-7 on FGs over 50 yards. The Rams felt the weight of Zuerlein’s absence last year when Sam Ficken stepped in for him. Ficken would go 2-3 on his attempts, but the Rams couldn’t rely on Ficken to make longer field goals like they can with Zuerlein.

Arguably the best punter in football, Johnny Hekker is back as well. Hekker attempted the least amount of punts last year (which is a good sign), punting it 65 times. He would still tie his career best in yards per punt with 47.9. Of note, Jake McQuaide returns as the long snapper. There’s not much to say about McQuaide besides the fact he snaps the ball very well.

Without question, the Rams will boast perhaps the best special teams in the National Football League. With so much on the line in 2018, that may prove a deciding factor.
