More than a few in the media commented late on Saturday that Sean McVay may have a backup quarterback issue on his hands. Mannion, who started on Saturday against Houston, was less than impressive against the Texans starters on defense, but looked better once he got to face the lower part of their depth chart. That seems to be a familiar trend with him

Brandon Allen, who played pretty well against the Baltimore Ravens, played no better or worse than Mannion this past Saturday, and may actually be a little ahead in the competition to backup Rams starter Jared Goff.

Against the New Orleans depth chart, look for both Mannion and Allen to get one last long look by the Rams.

The bigger question some may ask between now and the opener against the Oakland Raiders is “what if?”

What if Mannion has shown the best he’s got, and the same for Allen? What does Los Angeles do, will they go and make a move for someone else?

Odds may be long there.

Unless one or both completely stinks up in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, the Rams may be content to ride it out and hope the offensive line keeps Goff upright.

Either way, McVay may be gambling that his starter stays healthy just enough this 2018 NFL season.
