Perhaps the biggest storyline from the 2018 preseason hasn’t even been seen. I mean, the NFL’s most potent offense has yet to step onto the field, so until the second game of ESPN’s Monday Night doubleheader kicks of the season, no one really knows what to expect.

Will they be as good as last season?
Has Goff made that next step towards franchise QB?
Can Gurley be as good as what fans saw in 2017?
And lastly, what about rookie running back John Allen?

Well, we know Allen looks to be the guy to possibly earn the backup spot to Gurley, but that has yet to be decided.

McVay enters the 2018 season with maybe the most to prove. But this preseason he’s kept things vanilla, which even furthers illustrates how frustrating it’s likely been with Mannion and Allen, but especially Mannion.

Next. Rams: 3 ways they have failed Aaron Donald. dark

It’s by in large been an exhibition season of head scratching and some uncertainty that won’t be assuaged on Thursday against the Saints. The best fans can hope for is a much better showing by whoever is at quarterback, and the news that the Rams and Donald have finally gotten a deal done.

Until both are accomplished, this preseason will have authored far more questions than answers heading into the 2018 regular season.
