The Los Angeles Rams will put the final wraps on the 2018 NFL preseason on Thursday night in New Orleans. Here are five areas worth considering as some things were a hit, and some things were a miss.

With the Los Angeles Rams playing the New Orleans Saints in their finale to the 2018 preseason on Thursday night, we can begin to look back at some hits and misses fans will take away from an exhibition season that delivered some interesting news, some of it expected, and some otherwise.

Definitive conclusions may be hard to come by, but factually speaking, and based simply on watching the Rams with an open mind, head coach Sean McVay didn’t just keep things conservative, he effectively shut down his offense and offered up what became an open audition for the backup quarterback position.

On the other side of the football, we got a brief glimpse of what could be a top NFL defense, so long as all the new components gel, and 2017 DPOY Aaron Donald returns, which may happen soon.

As for the Rams special teams, they likely will be the gold standard for the league. For fans, Greg Zuerlein looks to be back to form and punter Johnny Hekker is, well, Johnny Hekker.

Enough said there.

Without a doubt, McVay has a roster loaded from top to bottom. Some may even say the best from top to bottom in the National Football League.

He’ll have 16 games over 17 weeks to prove just that.
