22. New York Jets

Week 1 was filled with plenty of major surprises, and there’s no question that the New York Jets rank near the top of that list when looking at how they not only pulled off the victory on the road against the Detroit Lion, but also did so in crushing fashion. All eyes were on Sam Darnold under center during the rookie’s debut after the Jets made the bold decision to start him over Josh McCown, which already seems to be working wonders.

After tossing an interception that was returned by the Lions for a touchdown during his first pass attempt, the former USC star deserves plenty of credit for not hitting the panic button, and putting together a pretty solid performance overall. And while Darnold was quite pleased to receive the necessary support from his teammates on offense such as Isaiah Crowell Quincy Enunwa, it was the defense that made the rookie quarterback’s job much easier to handle on Monday.

Nobody could have predicted that New York’s defense would finish the game with five interceptions (four on Matthew Stafford), showing this team may end up being a surprise contender in the AFC during the 2018 season. But since it’s tough to figure out this team after one game, No. 22 seems only fair for the Jets before Week 2.
