5. Kansas City Chiefs

Anyone still questioning the surprise decision by the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason to move on from Alex Smith sooner than expected to begin the Patrick Mahomes II era? Clearly, the Chiefs knew it was only a matter of time before Mahomes took over the starting job since they didn’t sacrifice a first-round pick just to have him ride the bench.

So how did Mahomes look in his first meaningful start in Kansas City since last year’s game doesn’t really count? Well, let’s just say Mahomes quickly exceeded all expectations after putting together a four-touchdown performance against the Los Angeles Chargers. And to top the excitement off, it was a huge relief to see Mahomes finish the game without recording any turnovers, which should boost his confidence even more heading into Week 2.

Kansas City did an amazing job setting Mahomes up with the proper weapons to succeed, and if this first game is any indication of what 2018 has in store, this offense is going to be difficult to contain. All of a sudden, nobody seems to be questioning that decision by the Chiefs in regards to Smith since Mahomes appears to be the real deal who will only get better with experience.
