29. San Francisco 49ers

Sooner or later, the San Francisco 49ers knew Jimmy Garoppolo would be dealing with his first career loss as a starter after winning his first seven games, five of which came at the end of last year. Of course, that didn’t stop the 49ers from rewarding Garoppolo with a hefty contract in the offseason to make sure he would be around for the long run after years of struggling to find a new franchise quarterback.

Garoppolo’s three-interception performance against a tough defense in the Minnesota Vikings was obviously frustrating to see when considering the expectations surrounding this team, but also it’s no reason to panic. As long as Garoppolo bounces back with a better outing in Week 2 when San Francisco takes on the Detroit Lions, San Francisco will still be in good shape for the most part.

It was one thing for Garoppolo to help the 49ers end last year on a hot note, but the new season is a whole new ball game since 2018 is the first time he’s a full-time starter. Sunday’s game was a good early test to see where Garoppolo’s team stands at the moment, and it’s clear San Francisco has some work on their plate after losing to Minnesota.
