3. Rams secondary was outstanding

From the first drive of the game, it seemed like the Raiders were going to be able to have a decent amount of success through the air. It definitely didn’t stay that way, as Derek Carr threw for 197 yards in the first half with one interception.

The second half was a different story, however, as Carr struggled for the most part, throwing for just 106 yards and two interceptions. One of those interceptions was a pick-six from Marcus Peters. That play really took the life out of the Raiders, leaving the stadium silent. Peters finished his touchdown doing Lynch’s (his cousin) signature celebration to add salt to the wounds.

Aqib Talib and Peters showed their worth to the Rams in their debut in blue and white. The Raiders attempted 40 passes with Carr, and only nine of those were targeted at a wide receiver. That shows the fear that those two guys put on the Raiders, forcing them to use a game-plan to avoid them. The Raiders receiving corps finished with just five receptions for 43 yards.

That’s a huge asset to have as a team, having two cornerbacks who can shutdown anything that comes their way. Although Jared Cook was able to have his way, I’d rather have someone like him try to beat my team through the air, not Amari Cooper. The Raiders wideout finished with just one reception for nine yards, and if the whole season goes like Week 1 for the Rams secondary, they’re going to be very beneficial come playoff time.
