It’s only Tuesday, and already Rams fans have thrown down the gauntlet that Los Angeles is a one team town, meaning Week 3 might go a long way in establishing how big an edge each team has in the battle for LA’s NFL soul.

It’s long overdue.

The Chargers have taken up residency in a soccer stadium while the Rams returned to the tired, but tried and true home in the Los Angeles Coliseum. That said, they are two seasons away from moving into the plush digs of their new Inglewood home.

Think New York Giants with an undercard that features the New York Jets in New Jersey.

The real storyline that may emerge on Sunday is one where the Chargers look to establish some kind of identity in a city littered with competing football entities like USC and UCLA. Don’t forget, the Bolts have been roundly criticized for abandoning San Diego, where they were the only game in town.

They aren’t that anymore, especially not in their new chosen city.

Rams versus Chargers isn’t just a game featuring what many believe to be two legitimate contenders. It’s also a game the Chargers need in a big way beyond the win / loss column.
