Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley is following up a stellar 2017 with a bid at a possible league MVP kind of season. Gurley, who will be on the field with another quality back in the Chargers Melvin Gordon, will garner the bulk of attention but might not be the most consequential when all is said and done.

That said, the 2017 NFL OPOY will put up the kind of numbers that say he is the Rams offense. But this week, he may only have the yardage and not the touchdowns to help the cause.

It’s without question the Chargers defense who will key on the Rams running back as it’s only logical. But if he’s close to the end zone, quarterback Jared Goff may have to look elsewhere beyond Gurley, even special teams for points.

For fans who find that sacrilege, get a grip. Over the balance of the 2018 season, some teams may find the kryptonite to stop Gurley, forcing Goff to find other scoring options.

Week 3 will feature the game where we find out what there is beyond Gurley where the Rams offense is concerned, and frankly what to expect when the spotlight looks for Goff.

Bottom line, the Chargers will be the first of a few teams who land some punches on the Rams this season.
