Say what you want about the Los Angeles Rams defense, just don’t say they are better than pretty good. The much ballyhooed free agent signings predicted a lot but to date, they’ve offered up a unit you can run on and a defensive backfield you can pass on.

Right now as the Rams enter Week 7 against a 1-5 49ers, the odds are good that they leave the Bay Area 7-0, But to look back at how well the offense has played, especially when they have scored 30 plus points in every game except in Week 6 at the Denver Broncos, defense presents some questions.

The downside is the Rams still don’t have a lot answers on defense.

The pass rush has been average to good, and quarterbacks of opposing teams have been able to throw the ball effectively.

Look for Los Angeles to consider the defensive end position, and possibly a player like Jalen Jelks from Oregon.

Jelks is listed at 6’-6” and weighs in at 245 lbs. In the college preseason, he has appeared on such lists as the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch list, the Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List, as well as both Athlon and Lindy’s All-Pac-12 first team preseason.

As for on the field, he appeared in all 13 games for the Ducks as a Junior and posted team highs with 15.0 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. He was also rated as the fifth best PAC-12 lineman against the run according to Pro Football Focus.
