Jared Goff may be the trigger man, but it’s Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay who makes the machine work. Not unlike the “chicken and egg” theory, both McVay and Goff need each other. But in this scenario, it’s likely that without McVay, Goff is a potential first pick bust.
Hyperbole aside, he was a disaster under the previous regime and is now someone who should be in the MVP mix?
McVay gets all the deserved credit for putting out the dumpster fire the Rams had become under Jeff Fisher and as such, the same applies to Goff.
Can it really be understated the significance of McVay intervening in the now third year quarterbacks’ career? It’s fair to say the benefits are mutual as Goff has grown and gotten better exponentially. In the high power system the Rams head coach unleashes every week, the quarterback position is a byproduct of the game plan.
What about Sean Mannion you say?
Fair point.
But Goff has talent, whereas Mannion may only be mildly serviceable.
Los Angeles has surrounded Goff with a bounty of talent on offense. McVay has provided Goff with a template to be successful. To Goff’s credits he’s done a lot with what he’s been provided as the starting quarterback of the Rams.
But a league MVP, especially at his position, needs to be the first thing you think of when considering the offense. In LA, he hasn’t quite earned that consideration whereas McVay has.
