The Rams haven’t hosted a Monday Night Football game in the Coliseum since 1979. The last time they did, they beat the Atlanta Falcons 20-14.

It’s been awhile.

It’s also something that should happen with greater frequency given the current trajectory of the Rams and especially given the number of high profile players on this team. It also makes sense as they play in the second largest media market and on Monday night, you can count on some serious star power in attendance.

I wrote a post a few weeks ago noting how the league and its schedule makers did a great job in 2018 of keeping the Rams out of many prime-time games. While they have played two this season, one against the Oakland Raiders on MNF to open the season, and a Thursday Night game against the Minnesota Vikings, the presence of one of the best teams in the league seldom featured should be better thought out next season.

That said, it’s a chance for Los Angeles to be the centerpiece of an iconic night for football. Rams and the Chiefs could well be the best game of Week 11. While some fans have lamented the move from Mexico City a disappointment, it’s a big opportunity for the fan base to get it right and own that stadium attendance. Something they haven’t done well in recent games.

Either way, Monday Night will be big for both teams, especially the NFL, who got it right moving this game back to LA.
