Ramblin’ Fan- Who poses a bigger risk for the Chiefs defense: Jared Goff throwing the football or Todd Gurley running/catching the ball out of the backfield?

Arrowhead Addict- Both of these players are going to get theirs on Monday night. Todd Gurley is easily the biggest obstacle for Kansas City, however. The Chiefs have struggled covering running backs in the passing game and stopping the run in general. Both of which Gurley can dominate in. Anthony Hitchens and Reggie Ragland at the inside linebacker positions are not the style of linebacker to successfully cover fast running backs. Rookie Dorian O’Daniel has been great in his limited time, but that limited time is the main problem. I expect Gurley to have a major day against the Chiefs defense. The middle of the field has been the weakness for the Chiefs defense while the cornerbacks have exceeded expectations by a mile this season.

Ramblin’ Fan- Even with the Chiefs at 9-1, what’s been the biggest surprise besides Mahomes and what has disappointed so far this season?

Arrowhead Addict- The biggest surprise even for Chiefs fans is the development that Mahomes has already put together. Kansas City fans already had high expectations that seemed like a joke to most outside fans around the country. Until Mahomes exceeded even those high expectations. The biggest disappointment has probably been on the defensive side. GM Brett Veach  spent all offseason starting the rebuild of the defense primarily to address the defense against the running game. While many of the rookies are coming along, linebacker Anthony Hitchens has not panned out in his first season. I personally believe that’s more on defensive coordinator Bob Sutton asking him to do too much which results in hesitation. Sutton doesn’t run an aggressive defense which is where both Ragland and Hitchens excel.
