The Los Angeles Rams hang on to win a wild one in the Coliseum 54-51 over the Kansas City Chiefs.
It took 105 points over 60 minutes, but the Los Angeles Rams held on to beat the Kansas City Chiefs 54-51 in a Week 11 Monday Night Football game that delivered on all the hype, absolutely and completely.
If you’re looking for heroes, pick one, anyone.
Rams quarterback Jared Goff went 31 of 49 for 413 yards and four touchdowns. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who began to sputter at the end, posted MVP type numbers with 33 completions on 46 attempts. He’d add six touchdowns but the three interceptions, especially the last two, would be his undoing in an absolute shootout that fans won’t forget.
Both quarterbacks would end up combining for 891 passing yards in a look at how the offensive game in the National Football League might be evolving, and remember this: the defenses of both teams played pretty well.
They did.
Rams Defensive tackle Aaron Donald harassed Mahomes all night long, sacking him twice and forcing Kansas City into two fumbles that resulted in LA points.
As for the MVP candidates, Los Angeles running back Todd Gurley and Mahomes lived up to the hype, though the consensus nod will go to Mahomes, despite turnovers that could have been the deciding favor on Monday night.
The Rams and Chiefs now head into their respective bye weeks. Los Angeles at 10-1 remains neck-and-neck with the New Orleans Saints who also won in Week 11, while the Chiefs will remain a favorite in the AFC.
Bottom line, the loser of this game loses little if any traction in the chase for a Lombardi Trophy. If anything, the potential preview of what could be a Super Bowl between two high scoring teams will be the talk of not just the lead up to Week 12, but what teams in that chase will be trying to figure out how to stop.
