The MVP race may have thinned a bit last night. At the very least, some distance may have been created as those who were behind Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Rams running back Todd Gurley are now more clear-cut than ever.

With last night’s performance and the incredible numbers both quarterbacks posted, Mahomes was an absolute turnover machine, and unless players like Drew Brees and Ben Roethlisberger stumble, which will likely happen at some point, it’ll be their’s to lose.

As for Gurley, he was simply a minimal factor last night. Don’t misunderstand, he’s critical to what Los Angeles does on offense. But on a night where he’d be kept out of the end zone for the first time in 13 games, his 55 yards rushing and 39 receiving pale in comparison to what other candidates are doing.

That doesn’t mean the race is all but conceded. For Gurley, the Rams running game was simply a secondary factor on Monday. You could almost toss Goff into the discussion based on last night’s offensive explosion, but his body of work doesn’t stack up.

Which means we may not have seen the last of Gurley or Mahomes.

As great as last night was, the MVP wasn’t won in that epic showdown in LA, but a case can be made that it could have been lost.
