3. Cowboys defeat Redskins

Cards on the table, it would take an absolute miracle for one of the teams in the NFC East to work their way high enough to ruin things for the Rams in the playoff standings when it comes to earning one of the top two spots. But just for the sake of this article, it only seems fair to discuss the Thursday afternoon game between the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins.

Believe it or not, the Redskins currently sit on top of the NFC East, although they have quite the work cut out for them now that Alex Smith will miss the remainder of the season after that devastating leg injury last weekend. As bad as it sounds, Washington was the last team anyone expected to be on top of the division this late in the season, and while they certainly feel confident in their chances to end up on top, Dallas has been heating up at the right moment.

In fact, the argument can be made the Cowboys are the new favorites to win the NFC East, even if they trail by one game at the moment. With a Dallas win over Washington, this would result in Los Angeles having a four-game lead over both of these teams while basically eliminating any sort of threat in the overall NFC standings.
