The Los Angeles Rams get cornerback Aqib Talib back, but it remains unclear if he’ll play Week 13 against the Detroit Lions.
Los Angeles Rams cornerback Aqib Talib is designated to return from injured reserve but his status for Week 13 against the Detroit Lions may still be up in the air.
Talib, who injured his ankle all the way back in Week 3, has always been projected to come back at some point in the season, and given the state of affairs with the Rams defense, most especially their secondary, his return won’t come a moment to soon.
Cornerback Marcus Peters, who’s been getting roasted this season, stands to gain the most, as he’s been targeted a lot by opposing quarterbacks. The big free agent signee from the Kansas City Chiefs enjoyed a decent game in Week 11, but that could well be more blip than trend. The hope is with Talib back, Peter’s can settle into a coverage he’s more comfortable in, and be less a liability for the Rams defense moving forward.
It’s no secret the Los Angeles defense has been a profound disappointment in 2018. Whatever your view as a fan, you were probably not counting on what has transpired over their 10-1 stretch. In four consecutive weeks, the Rams gave up 27 points to the Green Bay Packers, 45 points to the New Orleans Saints, 31 points to the Seattle Seahawks, and most recently 51 on Monday Night Football to the Chiefs.
How much Talib truly helps will be interesting to see.
Despite all of that, LA is still loaded on the offensive side of the football, and despite the loss at New Orleans, they continue to put up a lot points and possess the firepower to go head-to-head with the best offenses in the league.
That’s a good thing for the Rams, as two of the three best teams in the National Football League are 1-1 against Los Angeles this season, meaning scoring 51 may not be the last time that many points is needed to win a game.
