As much as the Los Angeles Rams hope to receive help from the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday against the New Orleans Saints, it seems unlikely.
The Los Angeles Rams will certainly be well rested for their Week 13 meeting with the Detroit Lions after enjoying the bye week off, but before that game takes place, all eyes will be focused on a key Thursday matchup.
At the moment, the Rams currently sit in the No. 2 seed for the NFC playoff picture behind the New Orleans Saints since Sean Payton and company own the tiebreaker for their head-to-head win from a few weeks ago.
When comparing the two remaining schedules, there’s every reason to believe that Los Angeles is capable of working their way into the top spot in the NFC, although they are going to need some help.
Even if the Rams win all five of their remaining games, they would still need at least one loss by the Saints since both teams have a 10-1 record at the moment.
With that being said, Los Angeles will actually know if they have a chance to move back into the top spot in the NFC standings before they take the field on Sunday against Detroit since New Orleans will face the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday.
While the Saints have been viewed as the hottest teams in the NFL with 10 wins in a row, the Cowboys are certainly catching the attention of the rest of the league in recent weeks by putting together three wins in a row.
Thanks to their recent success, Dallas would in fact be the winner of the NFC East if the season were to end today, but whether they can continue to stay hot against New Orleans is a different story.
No matter how confident the Cowboys are feeling at the moment, the Saints are playing on a whole new level right now with the mindset they are going to take down any team standing in their way.
Watching Dallas hand New Orleans their second loss of the season to put Los Angeles in a great position for Sunday’s game in Detroit would obviously be amazing for Sean McVay’s squad, but also seems like a long shot to happen.
Nothing against the Cowboys since they deserve credit for turning things around over the last month, but the team is nowhere near the same level as the Saints right now.
Of course, if the unthinkable were to happen in which Dallas managed to defeat New Orleans on Thursday, Los Angeles and their fans certainly wouldn’t be mad one bit about that kind of outcome.
