Sunday night was a game to forget for Jared Goff and the Los Angeles Rams during their loss to the Chicago Bears.
Over the last two seasons, the Los Angeles Rams have slowly watched Jared Goff develop into one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL.
Whether it was his five-touchdown performance against the Minnesota Vikings back in September or simply the monster game against the Kansas City Chiefs last month in which the Rams put up 54 points, Goff is clearly quite the special quarterback.
In a way, Los Angeles has sort of been spoiled in a way over the last two seasons when it comes to Goff playing well enough to help the offense be one of the best in the league.
Even during his first full year as the starter in 2017, Goff played a key role in helping the Rams make NFL history by becoming the first team to go from worst to first in scoring.
With that being said, Los Angeles unfortunately saw Goff receive a major wake-up call during Sunday’s contest against the Chicago Bears in which the former California star finished with one of the worst outings of his young career.
Throughout the course of the 2018 season, the Bears’ defense had established a reputation for being one of the top units in the league, but never in a million years did the Rams expect them to force Goff to toss four interceptions like he did on Sunday.
What was even more frustrating to see was how Los Angeles as a team couldn’t even manage to find the end zone once during this loss, making it clear Goff and his teammates still have some work to do before the playoffs get underway.
Most NFL quarterbacks take a few years before they begin to live up to their true potential, and while there really isn’t any reason to be concerned about Goff’s development since this was only one game, it was still a reminder just how young of a player he really is.
Between most of the success Los Angeles has been fortunate enough to have dating back to last season along with the cold weather he’s not used to being a factor, the team needs to realize that a lot of these scenarios are new to Goff.
Now that Goff knows the awful feeling of finishing with four interceptions along with failing to record a single touchdown pass, here’s to hoping the Rams youngster uses this as motivation to improve moving forward.
If this happens to be the case, it will only put Los Angeles in better position come playoff time since Goff is going to be a major factor in whether this team can make a serious run in January with an opportunity to represent the NFC in Atlanta during this year’s Super Bowl.
