The Los Angeles Rams will play the Dallas Cowboys Saturday night as they get their much anticipated post season run under way.

Saturday night in the Coliseum will be the most important game the Los Angeles Rams will play in their now third season back on the West Coast. And as if that wasn’t a big enough deal, they get probably the worst matchup they could have gotten as the two seed in the Dallas Cowboys.

Most NFL analysts worth listening to have all made the same point. Getting Dallas versus the Chicago Bears is not ideal as the Rams will now will face a good but not great quarterback in Dak Prescott, and a running back in Ezekiel Elliott who could make a bad Rams rushing defense look worse than perhaps any other opponent they’ve faced this season.

But wait Rams fans, there’s more.

Los Angeles running back Todd Gurley looks to be set to play on Saturday night, but is still limited this week in practice, leading even the most optimistic of fans and NFL watchers to wonder just how healthy that knee is. Backup RB C.J. Anderson, who’s been a welcome relief to that depth chart, has some experience against Dallas and is quick to note their speed and them having only gotten better since he faced them earlier this season.

Also, those same NFL watchers have noted that the Rams in December were not those same Rams in September, October, or November. The offense was slowed by more than a hobbled Gurley, as an aging offensive line began to finally resemble an aging offensive line.

Oh, and one more thing. The Cowboys have a monster fan base and will likely outnumber Rams fans in attendance in the Coliseum.

So who wins?

It’s no slam dunk for the home team, and after going 13-3 look for the Rams, especially Sean McVay and Jared Goff, to know that validation of being as good as touted, and as the second best team in the NFC, needs to result in a playoff win on Saturday night.
