Even though they played each other earlier this season, odds are the AFC championship Game delivers a new twist not seen all the way back in Week 6.

First and foremost, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is better than he was when he saw his team get their first loss 43-40 at the hands of the Patriots. Also, and in case you haven’t seen the weather, Sunday in Kansas City looks to be bone chilling cold with temperatures in the low twenties.

This is also a game that feature a Patriots team rumored to be fading. As Brady begins to grow long in the tooth professionally, he’s in the rare air of probably not being the best quarterback on the field come late Sunday afternoon.

I’ll be the first to say that I’m more than OK seeing the sun set on the “Patriot Way” and Tommy Terrific. As important as it is that leagues have those few dynasties who are routinely part of the postseason conversation, New England does look to be a team on the verge of sliding into that long awaited “goodnight.”

This AFC Championship may be the game that serves as just that. For all the naysayers who are waiting for Andy Reid to cough it up in a postseason game, Mahomes may be the one player who can prevent that.

As good and as durable as the Patriots brand has been, the death watch began in the offseason when cracks began to show between Bill Belichick and Brady. Those cracks may finally break open in the Kansas City cold on Sunday.

Hey man, everything has an expiration date.
