The Los Angeles Rams won’t be wearing the classic colors they sported in their 30-22 playoff win against the Dallas Cowboys, which is disappointing for fans and a huge TV audience.
One of the best parts of the Los Angeles Rams playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys was another chance to see the classic look of the blue and yellow throwbacks that are both a fan favorite and a distinctive look on television. Unfortunately for the NFC Championship Game, LA will revert to the white uniform that is best described as bland.
Hey, in the grand scheme of things, it’s a small thing, but for a team who has a look unable to catch up to their new and dynamic brand of football, it seems to be an opportunity missed.
Championship Sunday is a day that doesn’t come around often. That’s not to say the Rams won’t be down this road again, but it’s disappointing that they are constantly under the uniform guidance set forth by the National Football League that keeps them in a box.
It’s almost as if Los Angeles has a few identities that they have yet to reconcile. The first is the look they sported when they were last in LA. The other, which they have mostly shed but not entirely, is the one from the St. Louis edition. Toss in the blue and white helmets and it’s still something of a mixed bag fans would like to see settled.
The Rams have attained a level of success under Sean McVay that looks to have outpaced a look and marketing opportunity. The NFL hasn’t been much help as they don’t allow the gear they wore in their 30-22 win over the Cowboys to travel to the NFC Championship Game. That’s unfortunate, as the upside far outweighs the logic of the rule that keeps them shackled to a look that is remarkably average for a team who plays anything but.
Then again if they beat the New Orleans Saints and advance to the Super Bowl in Atlanta, whatever drab uniform combo they are wearing Sunday won’t be given a second thought.
