2. Gurley bouncing back

Towards the end of the regular season, the Rams were in a difficult position with Todd Gurley since the running back was dealing with a minor knee injury suffered in Week 15, and didn’t want to put him at risk the following two weeks by having him play.

Despite Los Angeles having favorable matchups against the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers, McVay’s squad was still in the hunt for the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoff picture since the Chicago Bears were right behind them in the standings.

Luckily, everything worked out just perfect for the Rams after allowing Gurley to rest along with finding a diamond in the rough with C.J. Anderson, who rushed for 100+ yards in each of the final two games of the regular season for Los Angeles.

Even in the Divisional Round, both Gurley and Anderson each managed to break the 100-yard rushing mark, although the NFC Championship was a completely different story.

While Anderson ended up leading the team with 44 rushing yards, Gurley had one of those off days in which he only received four carries for 10 yards with a touchdown. Bad games happen from time to time in the NFL, but most importantly, the Rams were still able to earn a trip to the Super Bowl when Gurley was off.

But against the Patriots, the Rams simply can’t afford to see Gurley have another one of these games, or hoisting that Lombardi Trophy may not happen.
