If the New England Patriots decide to force the Los Angeles Rams to win a Super Bowl on the arm of quarterback Jared Goff, they may be in for a rude awakening.

With the good feelz of Opening Night At The Super Bowl in the rear view mirror, the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots will get down to the business of winning a Super Bowl. As the media begins to drill down to how each team may win, the one thing that is growing more and more clear by the day is who the Patriots will force to be the hero for LA.

Hello Jared Goff.

I’ve written and stand by the notion that the Rams have a lot of ways they can win a football game, the Super Bowl being no exception. That said, the idea that New England head coach Bill Belichick will go with plan A to stop the running game, especially Todd Gurley, seems overwhelmingly logical.

Whether it’s Gurley or C.J. Anderson won’t matter. Stopping one or both, or at the very least testing how effective that part of the Rams game plan can be, will eventually force the game to Goff.

Fans saw two interesting styles of play with playoff wins over the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints. Against Dallas, Goff was 15 of 28 for 186 yards. He avoided any interceptions but also threw for no touchdowns. Los Angeles was able to rely on a heavy and successful rushing attack to win and move on.

In New Orleans, it was a different plan that evolved as the either injured or ineffective Gurley swung the spotlight to a Rams passing game that got better over the course of sixty minutes. Against the Saints defense, Goff was sharp once the big game jitters wore off. He’s complete 25 of 40 passes for 297 yards, one touchdown, and an interception not entirely his fault.

As I said, the Rams can win a lot of different ways. If the Patriots look to execute a game plan where they dare head coach Sean McVay to win a Super Bowl by throwing the football, they’ll see that the Goff is up to the challenge. Two playoff wins on the biggest stage have shown that the third year quarterback can win an NFC Championship. Winning a Super Bowl is a next step he is finally ready for.
