For the second year in a row, the Los Angeles Rams watched Aaron Donald take home Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Back in 2014, the Los Angeles Rams, who were playing in St. Louis at the time, felt confident they selected someone special in Aaron Donald after looking at the career he put together at Pittsburgh, but it’s safe to say no one ever imagined he would be this dominant.
Right away, Donald made a splash during his rookie campaign by being one of the most exciting players on the defensive side of the football by recording nine sacks for the Rams, and this was just the beginning.
From there, Donald would slowly work is way into becoming one of the top defensive players in the league, and over the last two years, some football fans will make the case that Los Angeles happens to have one of league’s top players on that side of the football.
Just how good has Donald been for the Rams? Well, the fact that Donald took home Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second year in a row just adds to the list of examples behind how special of a defensive star Los Angeles has on their hands.

As great as it would have been to see Donald take home MVP after those honors went to Patrick Mahomes, this is still quite the accomplishment for the defensive tackle after looking at all of the other candidates competing with him.
It was one thing to watch Donald tie a career high of 11 sacks during the 2017 season when considering all of the extra attention he tends to receive from opponents, but watching Donald lead the league this year with 20.5 sacks was absolutely incredible to witness.
Even if the case can be made these numbers never would have been in place without the presence of Ndamukong Suh, keep in mind that Los Angeles knew Donald would be one of the players who benefitted the most from playing on the same line as the former Nebraska star.
Looking back at all of the frustration on Donald’s end dating back to last season over his contract situation, thank goodness the Rams were able to work something out before Week 1 in September when he agreed to a six-year, $135 million extension.
Now, let’s see if Donald manages to stop the excitement of winning this award by helping the Rams accomplish the most important goal in all of football, which is winning the Super Bowl, which will take place in less than 24 hours against the New England Patriots.
