Rams should consider Chance Warmack as potential Rodger Saffold replacement
By Dan Parzych
With reports indicating the Los Angeles Rams are unlikely to re-sign Rodger Saffold, Chance Warmack comes to mind as a potential replacement.
Entering the offseason, one of the biggest questions surrounding the Los Angeles Rams was whether the team would be able to bring Rodger Saffold back for a 10th NFL season.
After spending all nine years of his career with the Rams, there would be nothing the team would love more than to see the guard return for the 2019 season to put the NFC champions in better position to make another run at playing in the Super Bowl.
Unfortunately, this is always easier said than done when it comes to the NFL since, rightfully so, Saffold deserves quite a hefty new contract based off his impact from the previous two seasons alone, meaning his asking price may end up being too much for Los Angeles.
On Thursday, it was reported the Rams are unlikely to re-sign Saffold as a result of the cost on top of the other areas the team will need to focus on, meaning the speculation over his next potential team is beginning to heat up.
Not to mention, if this does end up being the case, Los Angeles will now face the fun challenge of trying to find his replacement, whether it comes through free agency or the upcoming draft in April.
Assuming the Rams do end up exploring options in free agency, one player who happens to be flying under the radar that may be worth the consideration is Chance Warmack, who has spent the last two years with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Despite failing to live up to expectations at first when the Tennessee Titans used a first-round pick (No. 10) on the former Alabama star back in 2013, Warmack has made a strong enough case over the last two seasons to earn his next contract.
Warmack alone isn’t going to come anywhere close to the playing level of Saffold since the Indiana product has proven to be one of a kind player, but the potential is certainly there.
Keep in mind that Warmack’s experience from winning the Super Bowl with the Eagles during the 2017 season could certainly help with the Rams, as they look to make another run themselves next year.
Without question, it’s going to be quite difficult to replace a stellar player like Saffold after lookin at how valuable he’s been to the offensive line over the last two seasons, but also there is hope in filling the void he leaves behind, whether it’s from Warmack or someone else.
