Todd Gurley reportedly having arthritis still doesn’t let Rams off the hook
By Dan Parzych
According to a recent report, Todd Gurley has arthritis in his knee, which would explain a lot about the mystery surrounding the Los Angeles Rams.
Ever since the conclusion of Super Bowl 53, Los Angeles Rams fans have been trying to be patient over finding out some sort of answers over what exactly was going on with Todd Gurley after limited production towards the end of the postseason.
Towards the end of the regular season, there were some concerns surrounding Gurley’s knee, which is part of the reason the Rams decided to sit him for the final two games of the regular season.
Still, after watching Gurley rush for 115 yards with a touchdown in the Divisional Round against the Dallas Cowboys, it seemed like the Pro Bowl running back received the rest needed, and was back to his normal ways, that is until the following weekend.
Watching Gurley limited to just four carries for 10 yards with a touchdown in the NFC Championship was one thing since C.J. Anderson was luckily able to step up on offense, but the 10 carries for 35 yards by the Rams star in the Super Bowl was simply embarrassing.
So in the two biggest games of his NFL career, Gurley combined for 45 yards on 14 rushes with a score, making it absolutely clear there was some sort of injury bothering him, whether Los Angeles wanted to admit it or not.
But that’s part of what has made this entire situation so frustrating is the fact that Gurley’s mystery continued to remain a mystery, as the Rams continued to avoid providing any sort of answers that made sense.
Even at the combine, Sean McVay made a statement to reporters that Gurley didn’t have any scheduled surgeries or procedures, but this still didn’t give fans the answers they were looking for.
Now, after all the frustrating weeks waiting for an update, it looks like Rams fans finally have some sort of answer, which honestly won’t make them feel better about the situation.
If this report is accurate, this would explain a lot about what was going on towards the end of the postseason for Los Angeles since something was clearly up, as a running back with Gurley’s ability simply doesn’t see just 14 carries in two playoff games if all is well.
Without question, a running back like Gurley should easily be able to handle 20-30 carries in big games like the NFC Championship and Super Bowl, so no matter what the Rams kept saying, it seemed like only a matter of time before the truth came out.
Since ACL tears tend to result in arthritis later on, this may not seem like a surprise to Gurley after suffering the injury at Georgia, but also shouldn’t make Los Angeles feel better about the situation in general.
All of a sudden, these next couple of months could be concerning for the Rams since no matter what Gurley indicates moving forward, this news of arthritis is only going to continue to draw concerns.
