Rams need to consider Justin Houston with Chiefs planning to release veteran defender

With the news surrounding the Kansas City Chiefs planning to release Justin Houston, the Los Angeles Rams should jump on the opportunity to bring the veteran defender on board for the 2019 season.
Last offseason, the Los Angeles Rams were a team in win-now mode with the mindset that any player who seemed capable in helping them make a run at the Super Bowl deserved consideration to come on board, which is why Justin Houston for 2019 was an intriguing possibility.
In order to save some salary cap money, reports emerged last week over the Kansas City Chiefs considering trade options for the 30-year-old linebacker, which seemed like a long shot to begin with since most teams seemed to be confident in Houston becoming available at some point.
Turns out, this appears to be exactly the case after reports indicated on Monday that Kansas City will be releasing the veteran linebacker, which is a tough pill to swallow for any Chiefs fan after looking at the impact Houston has made throughout his career.
On a positive note, at least it seems like only a matter of time before Houston finds a new home for the 2019 season since plenty of teams could certainly use his talents, including the Rams.
Despite Cory Littleton having the best year of his career in 2018, and the possibility of Dante Fowler Jr. returning for his first full season with the team, Los Angeles was expected to focus on the linebacker position this offseason to help provide an extra boost to the defense.
Talent wise, Houston is considered one of the best in the league for a reason, and doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon after watching him record 18.5 sacks over the last two seasons, showing there’s plenty to bring to the table for the 2019 season on defense for the Rams.
As always, the price for Houston could be one of the biggest deciding factors in a move like this since Los Angeles faces plenty of other tough decisions as well spending wise on players like Fowler or Ndamukong Suh if they want them back in the picture for another season.
The Rams established a reputation last year as mentioned before as the team willing to consider any move to put them in a better position to win football games, and there’s no question that Los Angeles will most likely consider this possibility with Houston.
Plus, one of the advantages the Rams would have over most teams expressing interest in a player like Houston getting up there in age is Los Angeles will be in great shape to help him achieve the ultimate dream of winning the Super Bowl, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
