According to a new report, Eric Weddle plans on signing with the Los Angeles Rams.

After the Baltimore Ravens pulled off a surprise move earlier this week by releasing veteran safety Eric Weddle, the Los Angeles Rams seemed like a long shot for a landing spot, mainly because of all the interest he would be drawing from other teams.

Similar to situations with most teams across the league, the Rams knew there was always the chance of Weddle being too expensive to come on board since part of the reason behind the Ravens releasing him was due to the $7.5 million saved against the salary cap.

With this all in mind, it really wasn’t that much of a surprise to consider Los Angeles a long shot destination for Weddle, especially with the potential money he would be seeking for a veteran his age.

Turns out, this scenario that seemed like a long shot is becoming a reality for the Rams and Weddle after the two sides reached an agreement on Friday in what can be best described as a fair deal.

Right away, give Los Angeles credit for appearing to be extra aggressive towards the end to make sure this deal with Weddle happen to give them an extra edge heading into free agency.

Despite placing the franchise tag on Lamarcus Joyner one year ago, the Rams seemed to be leaning towards moving on from the safety in free agency since his production from 2018 unfortunately didn’t match the money he was making.

Some will question the decision by Los Angeles to give Weddle a two-year deal at his age (34), but also keep in mind that he’s reached the Pro Bowl three years in a row, and six times in the last eight seasons.

In other words, Weddle clearly still has plenty of great football left in him, and doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

Wade Phillips tends to bring out the best in some of his players on the defensive side of the football, and now that Los Angeles arguably has one of the top safeties in the league joining the defense in Weddle, one can only imagine how much better this move will make the unit.
