Los Angeles Rams: 15 best free agent acquisitions of all-time
By Dan Parzych
Without question, Jake Long will always be considered one of those “what could have been?” stars. He never really got the opportunity to live up to his true potential when he signed with the Rams back in 2013.
At the time, Long was considered one of the top free agents available in the market after five years with the Miami Dolphins. He made four trips in a row to the Pro Bowl to begin his NFL career down in South Beach.
Clearly, the Dolphins struck gold with their former No. 1 pick from the 2008 NFL Draft. The future of the offensive line seemed to be bright once Long came on board in 2013. That is until he suffered a torn ACL in late December.
If that wasn’t tough enough for the offensive lineman to deal with, Long would go on to appear in seven games for St. Louis the following year before suffering the same injury yet again.
Unfortunately, the Rams had no other choice in 2015 but to release Long. His injuries were too much of a risk with all that money he was earning. One can only imagine how different things would have been in the latter years if he was healthy.
