Los Angeles Rams: 15 best free agent acquisitions of all-time
By Dan Parzych
Since Johnny Hekker earned the rights to make this list while being part of special teams, it only seems fair to do the same with Jeff Wilkins. Just look at all of his accomplishments from 11 years with the team.
After three years with the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles, Wilkins would eventually join the Rams in 1997. He would end his career as the team’s all-time leading scorer, while earning a Super Bowl ring in the process.
Speaking of that Super Bowl run during the 1999 season, it clear how effective the Rams were on offense when seeing how Wilkins set a career-high that year with 64 points, while connecting on 20-of-28 field goals tries.
Kickers don’t always get the respect they deserve in the NFL. Watching Wilkins spend 11 years in St. Louis shows how reliable he was for the team throughout his career. Otherwise, they never would have kept him around for that long.
With 307 career field goals to his name, Wilkins will always be considered one of the best to ever suit up for the Rams. While Greg Zuerlein could one day replace him as the top kicker in franchise history, he still has some work to do to catch Wilkins.
