LB. (1998-01). London Fletcher. 9. player. 51.

Speaking of undrafted free agents, thank goodness the Rams were willing to take a chance on London Fletcher when they did back in 1998, even if he would only go on to play four seasons with the team.

After limited action as a rookie, it was Fletcher’s sophomore NFL season in which he started to make a real splash. He started all 16 games for the Rams, while finishing with 90 combined tackles and three sacks.

Most importantly, Fletcher did his part on the defensive side of the football, while the Rams watched their offense explode onto the NFL scene with one of the best units in the league to help bring home a Super Bowl title.

Would the Rams still have gone on to win the Super Bowl without Fletcher? Obviously, the answer to that question is yes, since it was the St. Louis offense that was the biggest issue for opponents all season. That being said, it was still great to see players like Fletcher stand out on the other side of the football with their defensive prowess.

Teams never seem to know how things will play out when signing undrafted rookies. The Rams deserve credit for giving Fletcher a shot since this turned out to be a steal when looking at the impact he made on defense for them from 1998 to 2001.
