C.J. Anderson claims Los Angeles Rams haven’t made an offer yet for 2019
By Dan Parzych
As the new NFL year is set to officially get underway on Wednesday, it appears that C.J. Anderson still doesn’t have an offer from the Los Angeles Rams at the moment.
Towards the end of last season, C.J. Anderson emerged as an unexpected hero for the Los Angeles Rams, and without the veteran running back, chances are this team never would have earned a trip to the Super Bowl.
Originally, the Rams signed Anderson for insurance purposes while Todd Gurley was dealing with a knee injury that appeared to be minor at the time, but what took place over the final two weeks of the regular season along with the playoffs was truly incredible.
Not only did Anderson lead the way in the ground game for Los Angeles to close out the regular season by rushing for 299 yards with two scores in Weeks 16 and 17 to help secure the No. 2 seed in the NFC, but he also came up big in the playoffs as well.
From rushing for 123 yards with two scores against the Dallas Cowboys to stepping up in the NFC Championship when Gurley’s struggles resulted in just four carries for the former Georgia star, Anderson turned out to be a surprise valuable member for the Rams on offense.
Even if Los Angeles failed to come through when it mattered the most during Super Bowl 53, the future appeared to be bright for Anderson with the Rams thanks to his surprise success. And with Gurley reportedly dealing with arthritis in his bad knee, Anderson seemed like he would be a top priority for the team to re-sign this offseason to put the ground game in the best shape possible.
As of early Wednesday, there hasn’t been any updates in regards to Anderson’s situation, and whether Los Angeles plans on bringing the running back for his first full season with the team, that is until he gave somewhat of an update himself on Twitter when responding to a fan.
First off, just because Anderson responded to a football fan that Los Angeles hasn’t made an offer yet doesn’t necessarily mean a return to the Rams should be ruled out.
When taking into consideration that Los Angeles just recently agreed to a deal with Dante Fowler Jr. and is currently trying to figure out their salary cap situation involving other players, an offer to Anderson may come later on once other decisions get figured out.
Plus, with Les Snead already hinting that Los Angeles would feel confident in Malcolm Brown if Anderson ends up being out of their price range, it’s easy to understand why the Rams aren’t exactly jumping the gun just yet.
In comparison, there’s no question that Anderson should be considered the preference over Brown from his accomplishments towards the end of last season alone, and one can only imagine the potential in 2019 if he were to continue being a dynamic duo with Gurley.
Things are expected to get wild by the time Wednesday afternoon rolls around with the official start of free agency, and while it was disappointing to see Anderson claim there’s no offer from the Rams at the moment, fans shouldn’t be too concerned at the moment.
