3 reasons fans should be excited about Rams meeting with Blake Bortles
By Dan Parzych
1. Experience is key in NFL
When it comes to the most successful quarterbacks from the last five seasons, Bortles doesn’t even come close to falling in that category since he has losing records in four of five seasons.
But if the Rams were looking to be positive about the situation, the team can never deny the fact that Bortles has gained plenty of experience during that time frame, and was even fortunate enough to gain some playoff exposure in 2018 as well.
As mentioned before, an experienced backup quarterback can give teams a major advantage in the NFL since there have been numerous times in which playoff-caliber teams end up missing out on the playoffs as a result of losing their starter.
Just look at the Green Bay Packers from the 2017 season when Aaron Rodgers was forced to miss some time with a broken collarbone, and the offense took a major step back with Brett Hundley under center, showing once again why the Rams are taking a serious approach here with Bortles.
All things considered, Bortles may not be the most attractive backup option for the NFC champions, but there’s enough potential and experience that would make this worth giving a shot for Los Angeles.
Plus, with Sean McVay’s history of quarterback development, maybe a fresh start with a team like the Rams would help Bortles get on the right track career wise.
