The Los Angeles Rams have five days to decide if they want to match the offer the Detroit Lions gave Malcolm Brown.

After the Los Angeles Rams tendered Malcolm Brown, it seemed like only a matter of time before the NFC champions faced a tough decision in trying to decide if it was worth matching an offer with another team for the running back.

On Tuesday, this turned out to be exactly the case for the Rams after Brown decided to sign an offer sheet with the Detroit Lions, meaning Sean McVay and company have five days to match the offer, or the backup running back will officially become a part of Matt Patricia’s squad.

Despite coming on board as an undrafted free agent back in 2015, Brown has made quite the name for himself over the last two seasons in Los Angeles, as McVay gave him heavy praise right away shortly after coming on board as head coach in 2017.

Being the No. 2 running back behind Todd Gurley is never easy since the former Georgia star has proven to be quite a workhorse over the years, but after the knee issues from this past season, the Rams have made it clear they will take a different approach in 2019 for the ground game.

As much as Los Angeles wanted to bring C.J. Anderson back into the picture after the veteran’s success towards the end of the 2018 season, and the playoffs, the Rams also seemed confident in Brown being just as great of an option.

With this in mind, does it seem like only a matter of time before the Rams decide they need to match the offer with the Lions to make sure Brown continues to be around? This may appear to be the likely scenario, but also Brown seems like a player they could get by without, meaning they should let him walk and join the Lions.

Between the possibility of Anderson returning on top of the fact that John Kelly would love the opportunity to take on a heavier workload if needed on offense for Los Angeles, McVay’s team certainly has options to weigh over these next five days.

All due respect to Brown since he’s always been a favorite to some fans over the years, but allowing the running back to join the Lions seems like it would be in the best interest for both parties involved, especially the Rams.
