Rams may regret not going after Brandon Marshall in free agency

Despite seeming like a great fit at first on the Los Angeles Rams, Brandon Marshall agreed to a one-year deal with the Oakland Raiders on Thursday.
Entering the offseason, the Los Angeles Rams knew improving the linebacker position was going to be a top priority, similar to around this time last offseason.
Even after the Rams convinced Dante Fowler Jr. to return on a hefty one-year deal, the NFC champions were still hoping to add depth to the linebacker position. And while signing Clay Matthews will certainly help fill the need on defense, it’s tough not to wonder what could have been with Brandon Marshall.
After struggling to find a new team over the last few weeks, the former Denver Broncos linebacker finally found a new home after agreeing to a one-year deal with the Oakland Raiders on Thursday to help Jon Gruden‘s team continue to be one of the biggest offseason winners.
Back in February when the Broncos informed Marshall about their plans to move on from the linebacker, the Rams were one of those teams that stood out the most in regards to being a great fit.
Plus, with Marshall already being familiar with the system Wade Phillips runs due to their time together a few years ago when the defensive coordinator in Denver, this seemed to give Los Angeles even more of an advantage.
Unfortunately, Los Angeles never actually expressed any interest in bringing Marshall on board, but this doesn’t necessarily mean he wasn’t a good fit.
Obviously, Rams fans have every reason in the world to be thrilled over Fowler and Matthews heading into the 2019 season, as these two are in great position to help the defense continue being one of the best in the league.
As for what could have been with Marshall, well this is simply all fans can do at this point since this doesn’t seem like as big of a deal with Los Angeles still addressing the situation at linebacker.
At least for the Raiders, Gruden and company should be thrilled over the talent that Marshall brings to the table. And if Marshall ends up shining in 2019, maybe this will be one of those decisions the Rams look back on wishing they would have pursued instead of missing out on the opportunity.
