After hearing recent comments by John Lynch in an interview, the Los Angeles Rams should be thrilled over the San Francisco 49ers missing out on Odell Beckham Jr.

Even though the Los Angeles Rams were never a realistic landing spot for Odell Beckham Jr. before the star wideout ended up with the Cleveland Browns, the NFC champions were on alert over the possibility of him joining the NFC West, with the San Francisco 49ers coming to mind.

Now that Jimmy Garoppolo appears to be the long-term answer at quarterback, the 49ers understand the importance of building a better offense around their star under center.

Around this time last year, expectations were high for San Francisco after signing Garoppolo to that hefty contract. And while it was disappointing to see Garoppolo’s season end early on as a result of a torn ACL, the expectations will be high once again for the 2019 season.

Based off his impressive 5-0 record to close out the 2017 season, the 49ers have every reason to believe that it’s only a matter of time before Garoppolo is considered one of the top quarterbacks in the league, and this could make the rivalry with the Rams even more interesting.

As for Beckham, while San Francisco didn’t end up landing the star wideout, it was interesting to hear John Lynch recently discuss how the wideout was on their radar, and consider the thought of what could have been if the 49ers were willing to give up first-round picks.

First off, Lynch is right in the difficulty of giving up two first-round draft picks since with the No. 2 pick in this year’s draft, San Francisco is in a great position to draft one of this year’s top defenders in Nick Bosa or Josh Allen, depending on what the Arizona Cardinals do with the top selection.

Without a doubt, Beckham has always been one of those players on offense who can single-handedly take over a football contest, as he did on numerous occasions over the years with the New York Giants.

Landing Beckham to provide Garoppolo with one of the league’s most talented receivers certainly would have made a difference in the NFC West, but the Rams at least aren’t disappointed over how this all played out.

Instead of having to worry about facing Beckham at least twice in 2019, Los Angeles feels better off knowing that the only way to see the star wideout next season will be if the Rams happen to be playing the Browns in Miami during Super Bowl 54.
