Los Angeles Rams: 15 best first-round draft picks of all-time
By Dan Parzych
Let’s take a look at the best first-round draft picks for the Los Angeles Rams of all-time.
During their first two years under Sean McVay, the Los Angeles Rams have found plenty of great success in the NFL Draft. This is impressive since the head coach never even had a first-round pick to work with. His tenure leading the Rams comes after the team decided to pull off trades for Jared Goff and Brandin Cooks.
Only time will tell when it comes to determining if the Rams will find success once again for the 2019 class. But in honor of this year’s draft, it only seems right to look back at some of their all-time greatest picks in the first round.
From numerous Pro Football Hall of Famers, to current members of the team that have all sorts of potential to one day earn a spot in Canton, the Rams have been fortunate enough to find plenty of success in the first round throughout their history. This of course includes their time spent in St. Louis.
Right away, one of the former first-round picks that stands out the most was the Rams deciding to use the second overall pick on Eric Dickerson back in 1983 to help fill their need at running back.
Just how great was Dickerson? There aren’t many rookie running backs capable of making a serious impact right away during their first NFL season. Dickerson rush for 1,808 yards with 18 touchdowns during the 1983 season, showing the Rams made the right choice at No. 2 during the draft that year.
Even more impressive, Dickerson joined a rare group of elite running backs during his sophomore campaign by breaking the 2,000-yard rushing mark in the 1984 season. He finished that campaign with 2,105 rushing yards, showing once again the Rams scored big in the draft the year prior.
So which Rams, both past and present, deserve to be considered some of the all-time greats when it comes to being former first-round picks? While there are plenty of great players to choose from, here are 15 former Rams first-rounders that deserve the most honor.
