Also known as “Crazy Legs” due to the way he would run with the football, Elroy Hirsch‘s career with the Rams got off to an interesting start, since he was trying to play for the Green Bay Packers in 1949.

Since Hirsch decided to return to the University of Wisconsin after the Rams, who were in Cleveland at the time, selected him in the first round of the draft back in 1945. The Rams had the rights to his contract over the Packers.

Despite all the drama at the time, Hirsch joining the Rams ended up working wonders for his career. In 195, he helped the Rams win the NFL Championship.

It was that season in which Hirsch led the NFL with 66 catches for 1,495 yards, to go along with 17 touchdown. This shows just how special of a talent he was at the wide receiver position.

During his career with the Rams, Hirsch finished with 343 receptions for 6,299 yards and 53 touchdowns.

Without a doubt, the argument can be made the Rams never would have been able to win the title the way they did in 1951 if it wasn’t for Hirsch’s presence. Thank goodness the early drama worked itself out, or who knows how different things would have been for Hirsch and the Rams.
