Week 6 (Home) and 16 (Away): San Francisco 49ers

Around this time last year, there was plenty of excitement about the new intense rivalry in the NFC West after the San Francisco 49ers signed Jimmy Garoppolo to a hefty extension to keep him around for the long run.

Now that San Francisco was set with Garoppolo, the rivalry with Los Angeles was going to be taken to a whole new level since he and Goff were two young quarterbacks on the rise in the NFC.

Instead, the 49ers watched their season come crashing down early on after Garoppolo suffered a torn ACL in September, and put them in a difficult position on offense since the spark wasn’t there.

At least with Garoppolo on track to fully recover, and be ready to go for Week 1, the Rams know their two meetings with the 49ers will be far from easy unlike previous years if the San Francisco quarterback plays like he did towards the end of 2017.

As 49ers fans remember, it was that impressive play from going 5-0 as a starter to finish 2017 on a high note that led to Garoppolo earning a hefty raise last offseason.

And now that Garoppolo is going to have another chance to prove himself in 2019, the 49ers hope to see their quarterback live up to the hype while also making things difficult for the Rams in the NFC West.
