Rams could shock second round of 2019 NFL Draft by selecting Miles Sanders

Miles Sanders could provide the Los Angeles Rams with some insurance in the backfield if selected in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
In a matter of hours, the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft will officially get underway, and after trading out of the first round with the Atlanta Falcons, the Los Angeles Rams are scheduled to make their first pick in the second round at No. 45.
Believe it or not, it’s pretty common in the NFL for teams to trade down near the end of the first round if they feel confident enough certain players will still be available in the second round, which appears to be the case for the Rams.
Like every other team, Los Angeles has a few areas they will be looking to add depth to during the final two days of the draft, and even though running back isn’t a top priority, one potential long-shot target to consider at No. 45 could be Miles Sanders.
Before any Rams fan gets defensive over the idea of Los Angeles selecting a running back this high in the draft when they should clearly be focusing on other positions, keep in mind the team has expressed interest in adding another player to the backfield.
Take a look at how Los Angeles took the time to meet with Darrell Henderson, and it seems pretty clear the team is considering all potential options at running back due to the uncertainty surrounding Todd Gurley, which is why Sanders makes an intriguing option.
The former Penn State star faced the ultimate pressure this past season with the Nittany Lions by having to replace Saquon Barkley, who exploded on to the NFL scene as a rookie in 2018 as a member of the New York Giants.
After two years of limited action as a result of playing behind Barkley, Sanders stepped up in a big way for the Nittany Lions as a junior by rushing for 1,274 yards to go along with nine touchdowns while catching the eyes of numerous NFL scouts.
Only time will tell when it comes to determining whether Sanders has what it takes to be a top running back in the NFL or if he would be better off as a No. 2 man in the backfield.
But if the Rams were serious about adding another running back in the draft, Sanders deserves just as much consideration as other candidates.
As much as the Rams want to believe that Gurley will return to his normal ways on offense, there are no guarantees when looking at how it’s April, and there are still concerns over the knee.
At the end of the day, Los Angeles knows they will need to make whatever decision is best for the team moving forward when it comes to having the necessary talent at running back, and if Sanders happen to be available at No. 45, the Rams should at least consider the idea.
