Rams have nothing to lose bringing back Bryce Hager
By Dan Parzych
The Los Angeles Rams are bringing Bryce Hager back on a one-year deal for the 2019 season.
Back in March, the Los Angeles Rams didn’t make that much of an effort to bring Bryce Harper back for the 2019 season, despite the kind of impact the former Baylor star has made on special teams since coming on board in 2015.
As bad as it sounds, Hager was one of those players in which no one really knew what to expect when selected in the seventh round back in 2015 by the Rams, but the linebacker deserves plenty of credit for making a nam for himself on special teams.
Moving on from Hager was considered one of those under the radar moves this offseason since the argument can be made that he’s one of those players who can easily be replaced.
But now that Hager is back on a one-year deal, it’s clear Los Angeles hopes to see the linebacker continue to make an impact during the 2019 season.
Even though Hager hasn’t seen the kind of action on the defensive side of the football he was most likely hoping to see when drafted back in 2015, this move is still a clear sign just how much Los Angeles values him on special teams.
Deep down, Hager most likely knows that most players in his situation would have been cut a long time ago after failing to make the necessary impact on defense, meaning he deserves all of the credit in the world for the accomplishments on special teams.
Over the last two years, the offense and defense for the Rams has received most of the attention behind the team’s success, but special teams consists of a few players with special talent as well.
Testing the free agency market may not have worked out the way Hager was originally hoping it would, but at least a return to the Rams means he gets to continue being part of a serious contender in the NFC.
After coming up short of winning Super Bowl 53, Los Angeles needs all of the help in the world to put the team in the best position possible to earn another trip next season with hopefully better results.
Hager may not receive the kind of attention that other players like Aaron Donald or Jared Goff receive, but his presence on special teams could still be viewed as an underrated impact, as the last couple of seasons have shown for the Rams.
