4. Tanzel Smart

If the 2019 regular season were to start today, the Rams would most likely be rolling with Tanzel Smart at nose tackle after two years consisting of being patient for playing time on the defensive side of the football.

However, just because Smart seems to have a slight advantage at the moment when it comes to earning the starting job doesn’t necessarily mean it will actually happen since it’s up to the third-year defender to prove he’s ready.

Of course, that’s always easier said than done since Los Angeles could end up deciding to go with Greg Gaines at nose tackle when looking at the expectations surrounding the former Washington star heading into his first NFL season.

Moving on from Ndamukong Suh this offseason was an extremely tough decision by the Rams since the temptation was there to bring the veteran back for another year with the hope of making another run to appear in the Super Bowl.

Gaines is nowhere near the same level as Suh, but also Los Angeles already seems to be giving the rookie heavy praise over what kind of impact he can make right away.

So while Smart has every reason in the world to be excited about the potential opportunity that 2019 could have in store, there are also no guarantees at the moment.
