Even though Sean McVay claims Todd Gurley’s knee will be good for the 2019 season, Los Angeles Rams fans should still feel concerned.

One can only imagine how different the results of Super Bowl 53 could have been for the Los Angeles Rams if Todd Gurley‘s knee wasn’t 100 percent, and a non-issue, but unfortunately all the team can do is focus on the upcoming 2019 season.

After dealing with knee issues towards the end of last season that resulted in the signing of C.J. Anderson as insurance, Gurley seemed to be back to his normal ways following an impressive outing in the Divisional Round to help take down the Dallas Cowboys.

During that contest, Gurley finished with 115 rushing yards to go along with a trip to the end zone, making it seem like that Los Angeles would be in great shape for the remainder of the playoffs with their star running back in great shape once again.

As football fans know, that was far from the case after Gurley’s knee issues came back into play when it mattered the most during the NFC Championship and Super Bowl 53.

It was one thing to watch Gurley struggle the way he did against the New Orleans Saints after only rushing for 10 yards on four carries to go along with a touchdown, but watching him follow that up with just 35 rushing yards in the Super Bowl made it clear the knee was far from fine.

To top the frustration off, Sean McVay and the Rams continued to try to make it seem like there still weren’t reasons for concern over Gurley’s knee, which obviously ended up being false after it was revealed he was dealing with arthritis.

All of a sudden, Rams fans couldn’t seem to figure out why McVay and the organization seemed to have misled them during the playoffs by blaming poor play-calling for the reasons behind Gurley’s struggles.

And if that didn’t seem frustrating enough, the fact that it’s almost June, and Gurley’s knee is still a mystery has most fans finding it difficult to believe any updates.

That’s where McVay’s recent comments come into player, as the folks at TMZ caught up with the Rams head coach at the United Way’s Homewalk 5k, and asked for an update that everyone was dying to hear in regards to Gurley’s knee.

Was it surprising to hear McVay claim that Gurley’s knee is “doing good” and he feels confident in him being ready to go for the season? Of course not.

Just look at how Los Angeles in general handled the situation surrounding Gurley towards the end of the playoffs last season by continuing to claim there were no issues, and hearing this kind of response from McVay shouldn’t come as a surprise at all.

Until Gurley actually proves there are no issues by playing in a meaningful game, and showing that he can play at a high level, the concerns surrounding his knee should be there.

Otherwise, comments like these from McVay seem meaningless since they seem awfully similar to the ones from last winter, and Rams fans remember well how that all turned out.
