Instead of worrying about his contract situation, Marcus Peters seems determined to help the Los Angeles Rams earn another trip to the Super Bowl.

Last offseason was filled with plenty of surprise moves by the Los Angeles Rams to put them in the best position possible to make a run at the Super Bowl, one of which happened to be acquiring Marcus Peters from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Talent wise, Peters was considered one of the best young cornerbacks at the time, and the 24 turnovers (19 interceptions, five forced fumbles) in three years with the Chiefs will back that statement up.

With this in mind, why was Kansas willing to move on from Peters so quickly if keeping the cornerback around would have resulted in the defense being in better shape?

Unfortunately, Peters wasn’t exactly the most mature player at the time with the Chiefs, and it was clear the team was frustrated at times over his behavior, or chances are he would still be finishing out his rookie contract.

On a positive note, at least this worked out for the Rams since cornerback was one of the biggest questions surrounding the team entering the 2018 offseason.

And if landing Peters out of nowhere wasn’t enough, Los Angeles would eventually go on to trade for Aqib Talib as well from the Denver Broncos.

All of a sudden, the Rams would go from having questions at cornerback to putting together a new dynamic duo at the position, as there was plenty of excitement surrounding the two to see what they could bring to the table for Los Angeles on defense.

While there were plenty of highs and lows throughout the 2018 season in regards to Peters, from an overall perspective, the Rams hope to see their young cornerback learn from last year’s experience to reach new levels in 2019.

With Peters entering the final year of his rookie deal, Los Angeles knows a strong 2019 campaign could result in the cornerback receiving a huge pay raise.

Based off previous concerns with Peters from his playing days with the Chiefs, one would assume the contract situation would become somewhat of a distraction this offseason, but luckily this is far from the case.

This kind of statement may not seem like that big of a deal, but when it comes to Peters, this is huge, and the Rams would love nothing more than to see him keep this mindset all season.

Deep down, Los Angeles realizes that if they do in fact want to keep Peters around for the long run, the checkbook will need to be opened up at some point.

At least for now, Peters and the Rams can focus on the most important goal surrounding the team, which is making another run to reach the Super Bowl with hopefully better results.

Earning another trip to the postseason for a third year in a row certainly isn’t going to be easy, but with Peters and other members of Los Angeles playing with an extra chip on their shoulders after last season, the Rams have to love their chances heading into training camp.

Some will say that Peters deserves credit for his willingness to hold off on a new potential contract, but also keep in mind the Rams may not be fully convinced he’s the answer at the moment, so it will be exciting to see how this all plays out.
