The Los Angeles Rams announced on Thursday that Troy Hill has been extended two more years through the 2020 season.

When it comes to the cornerback position for the Los Angeles Rams over the last couple of weeks, most of the attention has been focused on Marcus Peters and whether he was worthy of receiving an extension.

Even with veteran Aqib Talib, who happens to be entering the final year of his contract as well, the Rams have some uncertainty at the cornerback position beyond 2019, although there’s really no reason for concern at this point leading up to training camp.

On a positive note, Los Angeles did take care of another one of their cornerbacks on Thursday in Troy Hill by signing the Oregon product through the 2020 season.

Hill’s role on defense may not be as valuable as Peters or Talib, but this is an underrated move by the Rams that deserves more attention than it’s receiving.

After previous stints with the Cincinnati Bengals and New England Patriots in 2015, the Rams would eventually claim Hill off waivers before he started to make more of an impact during his sophomore NFL season in 2016.

Since that season, Hill has appeared in 40 games (14 starts) for the Rams, and most recently received the tender by the team in March before the two-year deal became official on Thursday.

Even though Hill’s deal won’t be nearly as big as some of the other players that Los Angeles needs to address at some point down the road such as Jared Goff, this is still a huge relief to get out of the way so the team has one less thing to worry about this offseason.

Plus, as previously mentioned, no one really knows what to expect from the Rams after the 2019 season at the cornerback position since they will need to make decisions on Peters and Talib as well.

For obvious reasons, the preference at this point in the offseason would be to have both players return to help the Rams remain in great shape on the defensive side of the football.

But at least if both players are gone or even just one of them returns, Los Angeles can still rely on Hill to step up if needed since they can feel at ease knowing the cornerback will be around now.
